With an ocean of professional and vocational courses on the platter, today fewer numbers of students opt for science and science based subjects. In contrast to the situation a few decades ago, parents, as well as the society as a whole do not perceive a career in science as rewarding as it was in the last few decades. The neck to neck competition and the fear of failure has also added to the shift away from science and allied subjects.
Ironically, in this techie world of today, it is important for each child to develop a scientific temper. A rational and logical aptitude can help students become a leader of tomorrow. It is only with the scientific knowledge, innovations and discoveries that the present genera
tion can enjoy the benefits of an advanced civilisation. It has enabled countless inventions of technologies, medicines and other useful devices. Therefore in the present scenario a vigorous expansion of science education is needed to create a more rational society.
Recognising the need to counter this alarming shift away from science and allied subjects, Sea Talent Support Organisation (SEATSO) a registered non profit organisation established by the leading IIT and IIM alumni, academicians, scientists and media personalities, has undertaken the task of popularising subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Education among school children.
SEATSO through various activities has encouraged students to take up these subjects and learn them with a higher level of understanding. The work done by SEATSO in this field has been widely appreciated. SEATSO with its innovative programmes and the intensive use of the internet promises to wave away the fear among students and build a strong scientific and cyber based talent pool to meet the challenges of future.
